Chiropractic Solutions
Dr. Jonathan Zwerka was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y. and is proud to announce the grand opening of Chiropractic Solutions at the four corners of Penfield, 2130 Five Mile Line Road.
This location already has a licensed massage therapist and a licensed acupuncturist. This was a major reason why Dr. Jon chose to open his practice in the same building. While they are all separate businesses it is good to have these holistic healing arts all under one roof serving the Penfield community.
Dr. Zwerka earned his Bachelor of Arts in Health and Human services from the University at Buffalo, After returning to Rochester he began his work caring for developmentally disabled adults at the ARC of Monroe. While employed there it opened his eyes to the status of the health care system in this country. He was inspired to help people become healthier by addressing the cause of the problem not just covering up the symptoms with drugs. This is why he perused a Doctor of Chiropractic degree at New York Chiropractic College.
Chiropractic care in conjunction with massage therapy has been proven to increase your white blood cell count thus making your body stronger to fight off infection. Many people believe that back pain is the only reason to see a chiropractor but it is only a small fraction of things that can be helped through chiropractic. Besides neck and back pain, some other health problems that can be addressed are arm or leg pain, TMJ, scoliosis, structural problems, arthritis, fibromyalgia, athletic injuries, pre/postnatal care, pediatric care and too many more to list.
Health care should be focused on the prevention of disease by embracing a wellness lifestyle and educating the public how to live healthier lives. Unfortunately health care is currently more focused on the treatment of disease than prevention because that is "where the money is." Take charge of your health and spend your money and efforts on getting healthy, not just free of symptoms. This way you can live a longer and more active lifestyle well into your golden years.
In 2004 the Census Bureau calculated the life expectancy for 222 countries. The United States ranked 42nd, which is down from 11th in the 1980's. This should be an alarm for the general public to start educating themselves on their health care options. Many of the countries that are ahead of the United States do not allow prescription drug TV commercials and there is something to be said for that. The average senior in the United States takes 3 different prescription drugs a day while 20 percent of them take over 5 medications daily. This is a problem because as the number of different daily medications raises so does the chances for adverse health effects from these medications. Some medications cannot be avoided, but the majority of them can be avoided through preventative measures such as proper nutrition and holistic medicine.
The elderly are not the only ones affected by these problems in our health care system, childhood diseases are skyrocketing these days. Just to name a few autism is on the rise, over 9 million children with ADHD and the number of kids with asthma has doubled over the past 10 years.
Don't let this happen to your family! By figuring out the root of the problem that is causing the symptoms he can help you become healthier through natural means: with proper nutritional supplementation coupled with holistic healing arts that can have anti-aging effects. Come in to see Dr. Jon and begin to reclaim your health today.

Fairport Savings Bank Celebrates 120 Years of Service to the Community
In May of 1888, a group of civic-minded individuals in the village of Fairport, New York came together to discuss the financial needs of their community. As a result, they formed the Fairport Permanent Loan Association which today is known as Fairport Savings Bank. The original board of directors stated their purpose as “encouraging industry, frugality, home-owning, the saving of money by members, the accumulation of savings and the loan of such accumulations to its members….” They followed through on their charter when they granted their first mortgage, to Mr. Martin Gannon, with a weekly mortgage payment of $2.00. By the end of the first year, Fairport Permanent Loan Association had 54 members.
One hundred and twenty years later, Fairport Savings Bank has added thousands of new customers, several new locations, and many new products and services, but the company’s commitment to serving the needs of the community has remained unchanged. In the ever changing world of banking, Fairport Savings Bank is one of the last locally owned banks in the Rochester area, where you can actually pick up the phone and talk to a live individual in your own community.
Fairport Savings Bank will be celebrating their 120th anniversary throughout the year with special events, gifts for customers and a few surprises. To learn more, stop by or call the Penfield Branch Office at 2163 Rt. 250 (next to Target), 377-8970.

PBA's Annual
Penfield in Bloom
One of your contributions & support to our community is the "Penfield in Bloom" project. Each year the PBA along with other community volunteers takes on the project of creating and maintaining gardens within the Town of Penfield. We currently maintain 15 garden sites that are usually located in areas that are visible as you enter the Town.
This year Joanne Nulton has volunteered to act as the PBA Managing Coordinator for our garden sites. Joanne was very instrumental in the start up of Penfield in Bloom and in fact managed this effort for some time. We are very pleased to have her back and reenergize this project. If you should see Joanne please welcome her back.
Joanne will be looking for volunteers and overall support to help maintain our gardens. Penfield in Bloom is a great project that truly is appreciated by many Penfield residents. Please help Joanne in anyway you can. She can be reached by email at jcnulton@aol.com or cell phone at (585) 281-6296.
Reduced Democrat & Chronicle Advertising Rates Available For PBA Members!
The PBA has developed a valuable reduced rate-advertising program for members and we want your feedback. Here are the details of the program:
The PBA will run one full page, full color ad in the Our Towns section (Northeast Area) of the D&C on the last Wednesday of the month. In addition, the same page will appear in the Neighbors section on Friday of that same week. This advertising page will be an opportunity for members to place their full color ad on the page for only $150 per week! This means your ad will appear twice that week, reaching over 80,000 potential residents and businesses throughout the Northeast area, in full color, for just $150.
The same full color ad running one time in the D&C would cost roughly $301.50 for a non-contract advertiser. Those with a contract would have to run the ad for four consecutive weeks at a cost of $199 per ad. $796.00 total.
Each individual ad size is 3.375” x 4.25” and will only appear with other PBA members.
Please email diane@threshcreative.com and let her know if you would be interested in this program. We’ll only proceed if we find that members would like to participate so your opinion is very valuable. We think this is a great opportunity for our members. What do you think?

A New Look for Penfield Plaza?
James Hawver * Staff writer * May 8, 2008
PENFIELD -- A major facelift -- via bulldozers, not Botox -- may soon be under way in the town.
The owners of BayTowne Plaza plan to give the shopping center a "Main Street" makeover, complete with updated facades, widened sidewalks and up to a dozen new shops and restaurants.
Sketches submitted to the Planning Board by The DiMarco Group center on demolishing one-quarter of an 80,000-square-foot building formerly occupied by Tops Markets to make way for a tree-lined corridor with a "Main-Street," "throwback" feel. "I don't think there's another plaza in western New York that will have something similar," Town Supervisor George Wiedemer said.
Penfield has a half dozen business districts scattered throughout the town but no major retail destination like the shopping plazas that line Ridge Road in Webster. Leaders hope the new BayTowne changes that. "We're excited about it," Wiedemer said. "We think it will put Penfield on the retailing map."
Plus, Wiedemer said, the larger tax base won't hurt.
BayTowne Plaza, which was built in 1990, is home to three dozen businesses. Redevelopment of the former Tops building would add five to 12 more businesses and not force any tenants to move, said John DiMarco, president of The DiMarco Group.
The plans also include the construction of two free-standing restaurants -- 6,500 square feet and 1,900 square feet -- that will be built in the middle of the current parking lot.
DiMarco would not name potential tenants but said local and national chains have shown interest in leasing the new spaces. "The short-term and overall goal is to make it a more-walkable and experienced-based shopping plaza," DiMarco said.
Crews may begin work on the project later this year, pending approval from the town, DiMarco said, with the possibility of new tenants moving in by the beginning of 2009.
The BayTowne Plaza redevelopment plans are available at www.penfield.org.

Know Objectives of Mutual Funds Before Investing
by PBA Director Curt Regruit, Edward Jones
With thousands of mutual funds on
the market, how can you choose the
ones that are right for your individual
needs? For starters, you need to know
the objective of each mutual fund in
which you plan to invest.
Let’s take a look at the investment
objectives of some of the most popular
types of mutual funds:
Growth funds — These funds invest
in the stocks of growing companies,
with the goal of providing investors
with capital appreciation. In plain
English, you invest in these funds for
the potential to make your money grow.
If you invest in these funds, you will
almost certainly experience the “ups
and downs” of the market, but if you
hold your funds long enough, and they
are well managed, you may increase
your investment’s potential return.
Growth-and-income funds — As its
name suggests, a growth-and-income
fund is structured to provide the
potential for both growth in value and
current income payments, in the form
of dividends. Generally speaking, these
funds are less risky than growth funds
yet offer lower growth potential. Keep
in mind, though, that dividends can be
increased, decreased or eliminated at
any time without notice.
International funds — You can
choose from several types of
international funds: global funds,
which invest in both U.S. and
international stocks; international
funds, which invest primarily outside
the U.S.; country specific funds, which
focus on one country or region; and
emerging market funds, which
concentrate on small, developing
countries. These funds generally invest
for growth, but they involve special
types of risk, such as currency
fluctuations and the prospect of
investments being affected by political
or economic turmoil.
Bond funds — When you invest in a
bond fund, you are seeking current
income, in the form of interest
payments, and the chance to help
stabilize a portfolio that might be
heavily weighted toward stocks. You
can choose from funds containing
municipal bonds, corporate bonds,
mortgage-backed securities or U.S.
government bonds. Although bonds
funds generally contain less investment
risk than stock funds, they carry a
different type of risk: purchasing power
risk. In other words, the interest
payments you receive from your bond
funds may not always keep up with
inflation. Be aware that bond funds are
subject to interest-rate risk and fund
values may decline as interest rates rise.
While these types of funds have
some obvious differences, they also
share some important traits in common.
First, financial professionals choose the
investments, which benefits you.
Second, mutual funds, by owning many
different types of securities, offer the
advantage of diversification. (However,
diversification, by itself, cannot
guarantee a profit or protect against a
loss in a declining market.
A financial advisor can help you
choose those mutual funds that may be
appropriate for your needs. But it’s still
your responsibility to know about the
funds in which you invest — so, before
writing a check, read a fund’s
prospectus, which can be obtained from
your financial advisor. The prospectus
contains complete information about
the fund, including its investment
objectives, risks, charges and expenses,
all of which you should consider
carefully. Ultimately, the best investors
are usually the best-informed investors.
